I'm a pretty good packer. I can make things fit into boxes really nicely. I pack them up, tape them up, and I may even organize them. Some of them actually look really neat and pretty. I find that I do this with God too many times to count. I think in some areas of our lives this is okay, but when it comes to God, I think He longs for more for us. I can picture myself handing Him a box and saying, "Here God, here's your box. Get in it." Okay, well, maybe I'm not that demanding, but I'm sure that's pretty close. He may appease my mind for a few or even for several thoughts, but eventually, just like my toddlers in highwater pants, God grows out of my box, time and time again.
As 2016 winds down, I celebrate a God who showed up again and again, by crushing each and every limiting box I put Him in.
I hear Him speaking as we approach 2017.... God doesn't long to be confined by our boxes. He wants us to know that He is bigger than them. He wants us to stretch out our tents. He wants us to expect Him MORE, trust Him MORE, love Him MORE. He doesn't want us to limit Him by saying, "He can't," "We can't," or "I can't." He is ready to EXCEED our expectations. He is ready and waiting. Whatever you are facing, He is by your side, in the midst of your circumstances, waiting pateintly for you to call on Him. If you're anything like me, sometimes this may take a while! But nevertheless He IS RIGHT in the midst of your joy or your pain, ready to show up for you.
So, I want God to supersede my boxes again! I want to skip the boxes all together if I can! I don't want to limit Him ANYMORE! If this is you... let's pray and agree together that 2017 will be a year without limits when it comes to what God can and will do!
God, forgive me for limiting You. Forgive me for saying you can't do something when You can. Forgive me for not believing in Your dreams for me, let alone your practical ways to get me through my day. Lord I want to believe for you to do MORE this upcoming year. I declare in my heart that You are bigger than the boxes I put You into. You are bigger than my circumstance and my worries. Thank You that You will do MORE in my heart, MORE in my life, MORE in my family, and MORE in the lives around me. I thank You for prayers answered in my own life, and that Your grace overflows into the lives of others around me Lord. Thank you for everything You're going to do! I give You the clean slate of 2017, and I say, write on it what You will! You are my Rock and my Salvation! Not this faltering world. My unlimited TRUST and HOPE are in You! In Jesus Name, Amen.
God needs our Yes.
I began writing in journals at the age of 11. My first journal had an angel on the front. Inspired by my Dad, Edward Stevenson, I began writing poetry and not so sweet boyfriend drama. My boy crazy drama quickly turned to a new love, Jesus, when I truly came to have a relationship with God at the age of 15. While I've had some writing lulls, I can't seem to stop. And we're not called to bury our treasure. Here lies some of the truths God has filtered into my own heart, and I can only pray that each of our hearts are filtered by His truth.
